New Hope also has its own special place in American history. As legend has it, George Washington lodged here the night before crossing the Delaware. And Aaron Burr, hero of the revolution, once vice president, and notorious dropper-of-Hamiltons, is also from New Hope.
In the early-to-middle 20th century, artists began to congregate around New Hope, making it the epicenter for the emerging American expressionist style.
